Antigua - Horta / Azores

Atlantic Crossing West- East (approx. 15 nights) from Antigua to the Azores, Horta.
Note: the exact cruise plan of sailing yachts is never present, due to weather conditions.., that's sailing!

Overview

Antigua – Horta / Azores

Combine the best of two worlds – an authentic sailing experience on large sailing yachts – without the pressure of fixed routings, and the comfort and service of a cruise.

We merge the best of the world of sailing with the world of traditional cruises. Authentic and individual sailing, just as if you had chartered your own yacht, is combined with the attentive and caring service of our professional crew and the comfort of a cruise ship.

Thereby, we do not follow a strict routing during the mostly one-week sailing cruises, but go by wind, weather and the desires of our guests. Hence, if the wind is good, we may sail even a little into the night, accompanied by a breathtaking view of the stars above…

And if the wind is calm, we just find the closest bay and enjoy a refreshing swim, go snorkelling or take a stroll on the beach.., pure seafaring, far from the mass tourism of large cruise liners.

Whenever possible, we actually set sails, but only for about 4-7 hours a day. In the remaining time there is plenty opportunity to take a swim right off board, to go on an individual excursion to the shore and get to know the country and its people, and much more…

Thanks to its strategic position on the Mediterranean, Cartagena has been inhabited by many different cultures which have left their mark on its rich cultural heritage during a glorious and turbulent history. It’s a very pleasant and relaxing city to walk around. SeaDream makes it easy is the yacht docks in the center of town. Guests have an option of a walking discovery adventure as well as resort golf at La Manga. Some guests also enjoy independent usage of the mountain bikes.

Day 15

Dénia

Dénia is a culturally diverse city on the Costa Blanca, situated on the northern edge of the Alicante province. It is halfway between Valencia and Alicante, and one of the oldest and most representative locations of the “Bous a la Mar” week-long festival (or “fiesta”) in July. Iberian ruins at Mt. Montgo represent evidence of prehistoric inhabitants in Dénia. In the 4th century, the town was a Greek colony of Marseille named “Hemeroscopion”, and allied with the Roman Empire during the Punic Wars. General Quintus Sertorius established a Roman naval base by the 1st century B.C.E. when the town was absorbed into the Roman Empire as “Dianum”. Once the Caliphate of Cordoba dissolved, after the Umayyad conquest of Hispania, Dénia became a Muslim kingdom known as the “Dénia Taifa”, created by a freed slave named Mujahid al-Siqlabi. The Muslim Arabs erected the castle fortress, which would later be rebuilt by the French in the 19th century during the Peninsular War. Dénia was captured by Christians in 1244 A.D., and the Muslim population was exiled. The town was declining, and eventually returned under the Crown of Aragon by 1455. Dénia continued to decline once the Expulsion of the Moriscos was ordered by King Philip III of Spain in 1609. The city fell to the French during the War of Spanish Succession, but once the Treaty of Utrecht declared Philip, Duke on Anjou as King of Spain in 1713, Dénia was returned to Spain. By 1803, Dénia was established as a trading port under the Spanish crown, and it began flourishing with its raisin exports. Dénia is known to be home to the iconic castle overlooking the city, which is now an archaeological museum with guided tours that guests love to visit. Since the 1960’s, the fishing and tourism market has made this port a thriving attraction, offering rich history, and other outdoor activities. Tourists can visit Macizo del Montgo Natural Park, Playa de las Marinas, and of course, visit the castle.

Day 16

Tarragona

Day 17

Collioure (Port Vendres)

This fishing port on the Cote Vermeille in southwest France features wonderful seafood restaurants and a beautiful waterfront perfect for exploration and strolling. Enjoy a recreational park, numerous hiking trails, historic sites, and of course excellent food and wines.

Day 18

Sanary-sur-Mer

Sanary-sur-Mer is a Provencal village located in the Var department in the Provences-Alpes-Côtes d'Azur region of France. Most visitors fall in love with the town shortly after they arrive. The harbor has several traditional wooden boats called “pointus” that are used by the fisherman daily. They sell their catch each morning on the harbor front. Market day is always a special treat so plan accordingly. The nearby village of Bandol has some of the oldest vineyards in France. It’s an easy bike ride down the coast from Sanary-sur-Mer. Other options include a land adventure to the nearby town of Castellet a typical hilltop village where you can explore and have a nice wine tasting. Golf at De La Fregate as well as water sports are also on option here.

Day 19

Saint-Tropez

Saint-Tropez located on the French Riviera quite simply may be the most famous resort town in Europe. It is a playground for the fashion models, athletes, movie stars, entertainers and other extremely wealthy summertime guests. There’s much to offer in this resort town, shopping, nightlife (Byblos hotel’s Les Caves du Roy nightclub) exceptional beach clubs such as Le Club 55 and Nikki Beach at Pampelonne. Nearby you can explore some of the hill towns and visit the award winning rose wineries. You can also visit neighboring Grimaud and Port Grimaud or just a little further out golf at a few highly rated courses. SeaDream anchors just off the break wall and tenders directly to the pier downtown.

Day 20

Nice

Nice is the fifth most populous city in France and the second largest on the Mediterranean coast. The city's famous seaside promenade, the Promenade des Anglais ('the Walkway of the English') owes its name to the earliest settlers to this seaside resort. For over a quarter century, the picturesque Nicean surroundings have attracted not only those in search of relaxation but also those seeking inspiration. SeaDream docks in the small port and offers several land adventure options as well as private arrangements and transfers.

The important cultural infrastructure and the rich artistic heritage have culminated in the nomination of Malaga as a candidate for the 2016 European Capital of Culture. Day 4

Funchal, Madeira

Funchal is considered the sixth largest city in Portugal, and for five centuries, it has also been the capital of Portugal’s Autonomous Region of Madeira. Funchal has a rich history, which quickly became a populated settlement due to its productive soils, and its surrounding valley having a natural amphitheater shape that provided shelter for early settlers. SeaDream guests may visit top tourist locations such as Blandy's Wine Lodge, the open Worker's Market and the Sacred Art Museum. You will find a passenger gondola lift (Funchal Passenger Ropeway), that transports people from the lower section of the city to the suburb of Monte. Aside from the city of Funchal, there are more tourist destinations such as Santana, beaches of Porto Santo Island, Porto Moniz, Ribiera Brava, Curral das Freiras, and the UNESCO Natural site, the Laurisilva forest.

Chrishi Beach Club, Nevis

Chrishi Beach Club is the most popular restaurant and club at the sandiest shores of Cades Bay & Nevis. The seaside sunny lunch and fine evening dining restaurant form a part of the first phase of the luxury development, Zenith Nevis. As the property development starts to take shape on the 6.5 acres stretch of private beach, visitors and guests are already able to take advantage of the carefree hospitality pledged at Chrishi Beach Club.

Day 15

Marigot

Disembarkation. Marigot is the main town and capital on the French side of Saint Martin. The city of Marigot is perhaps the most French in spirit of all the cities in the Caribbean. Colonial houses stand beside cafés and bistros, pastry shops and luxury boutiques, and in many ways, it looks just like any of the French market towns you might expect to find in Europe. At the southern end of town by the harbor is Marina Port la Royale. This area includes elegant stores with the latest in European designer fashion and fine jewelry, all duty and tax-free. The entire city is only four streets wide, so it is very easy to get around. Marigot was named the capital during the reign of King Louis XVI, who built Fort St. Louis on a hill near Marigot Bay. Today, that building is the most important in the city. SeaDream anchors off Marigot and offers several yachting land adventures as well as the possibility to play with the toys at the marina.
