Day 4

Funchal, Madeira

Funchal is considered the sixth largest city in Portugal, and for five centuries, it has also been the capital of Portugal’s Autonomous Region of Madeira. Funchal has a rich history, which quickly became a populated settlement due to its productive soils, and its surrounding valley having a natural amphitheater shape that provided shelter for early settlers. SeaDream guests may visit top tourist locations such as Blandy's Wine Lodge, the open Worker's Market and the Sacred Art Museum. You will find a passenger gondola lift (Funchal Passenger Ropeway), that transports people from the lower section of the city to the suburb of Monte. Aside from the city of Funchal, there are more tourist destinations such as Santana, beaches of Porto Santo Island, Porto Moniz, Ribiera Brava, Curral das Freiras, and the UNESCO Natural site, the Laurisilva forest.

As the property development starts to take shape on the 6.5 acres stretch of private beach, visitors and guests are already able to take advantage of the carefree hospitality pledged at Chrishi Beach Club.

Day 15

Marigot

Disembarkation.
Marigot is the main town and capital on the French side of Saint Martin. The city of Marigot is perhaps the most French in spirit of all the cities in the Caribbean. Colonial houses stand beside cafés and bistros, pastry shops and luxury boutiques, and in many ways, it looks just like any of the French market towns you might expect to find in Europe. At the southern end of town by the harbour is Marina Port la Royale. This area includes elegant stores with the latest in European designer fashion and fine jewellery, all duty and tax-free. The entire city is only four streets wide, so it is very easy to get around. Marigot was named the capital during the reign of King Louis XVI, who built Fort St. Louis on a hill near Marigot Bay. Today, that building is the most important in the city. SeaDream anchors off Marigot and offers several yachting land adventures as well as the possibility to play with the toys at the marina.

Disembarkation.
San Juan, founded in the 1520’s by Spanish settlers, is both the largest city and the capital city of Puerto Rico. A territory of the Unites States, Puerto Rico is comprised of the large main island as well as five smaller islands, including the popular islands of Vieques and Culebra (both ports of call on select SeaDream voyages). SeaDream docks in Old San Juan, the oldest part of the city. Parts of this historic port city are still surrounded by stone walls dating back to the 1500’s. Narrow cobblestone streets, small shops, and points of interest like Cathedral of San Juan Bautista make this charming city a great place to stroll. Guests sailing into or departing from San Juan will enjoy views of Castillo de San Felipe del Morro, a mid- 1700’s Spanish fortress. San Juan Luiz Munoz Marin Airport is approximately a 30-minute drive to the port in Old San Juan. Currency in Puerto Rico is USD.

L' Austral

In May 2011, L' Austral joined Ponant's fleet. This superb mega-yacht with 132 cabins is the result of the expertise of the Italian Fincantieri shipyard and French sophistication, as interpreted by designer Jean-Philippe Nuel. L' Austral remains faithful to our philosophy - to create a unique atmosphere, a subtle blend of luxury, intimacy and well-being.

A sleek silhouette softened by elegantly smooth contours and large, arched windows opening up to the sea and the light: so many features come together to give L’ Austral her distinctive shape. Precious materials, discreet elegance and a perfect balance between chic and casual, combine to make you feel as if you are on your own private yacht. A design blending tradition and innovation, where a nautical mood has been subtly recreated. A welcoming atmosphere of relaxed sophistication revolves around shades of grey, taupe, white and ivory enlivened by touches of cinnamon, caramel and tan.. So many personal touches create the spirit of a “private yacht.”

You will encounter unique itineraries, calls inaccessible to large ships, chic and elegant yacht-like ambiance, refined and personalized service as well as gastronomic cuisine.

Bridgetown/Barbados

Disembarkation.
More than 300 years of British rule have left their mark. The whole of Bridgetown, Barbados' historic centre, with its colonial architecture surrounding Trafalgar Square, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Gentle green hilly countryside and endless fields of sugar cane characterise the island's landscape. Old colonial houses are reminders of the high life of the plantation owners, while innumerable colourful chattel houses are evidence of their workers' "moveable property". The sweeping coastline is a picture postcard of fine sandy beaches and turquoise sea surrounded by colourful coral reefs.

Overview

Crossing the Atlantic: Santiago – Barbados

An authentic sailing experience

Crossing the Atlantic on a traditional tall ship is an experience that leaves a lasting impression. For 13 days your exact course is determined only by the elements. When the crew sets the sails at dizzying heights, the wind fills the canvas and the ropes stretch and creak; you will experience a tangible sense of freedom..

Fulfilling the dream of a lifetime – crossing the Atlantic from Cape Verde on board a windjammer: Santiago – Barbados

Following in Columbus’ footsteps

What would have been going through Columbus’ mind as he set sail in 1492? It is virtually impossible to sail across the Atlantic in the discoverer’s footsteps without constantly considering his thoughts and ideas. Columbus had not yet discovered the trade winds, which provide ideal sailing conditions in the westerly direction during the winter months, but nowadays we know that they guarantee fantastic sailing for the Sea Cloud ii on its way to the Caribbean.

Relax and enjoy

Great adventures do not always mean great effort. For 12 days we sail a westward course across the Atlantic, always heading towards a magnificent sunset. It will not be long before you sit back and relax; surrounded by vast horizons and looked after by an attentive crew, you will leave your every-day stress behind in no time at all.

A lecturer accompanies the trip

Our lecturer will come thoroughly prepared for the 12 days at sea, ready to give you fascinating insights into his/her area of expertise as part of varied and entertaining talks.

Please Note: More Caribbean sailing cruises are available, not all of them are listed online. Please contact us for more details.

Overview

Tenerife – Martinique

Combine the best of two worlds – an authentic sailing experience on large sailing yachts – without the pressure of fixed routings, and the comfort and service of a cruise.

We merge the best of the world of sailing with the world of traditional cruises. Authentic and individual sailing, just as if you had chartered your own yacht, is combined with the attentive and caring service of our professional crew and the comfort of a cruise ship.

Thereby, we do not follow a strict routing during the mostly one-week sailing cruises, but go by wind, weather and the desires of our guests. Hence, if the wind is good, we may sail even a little into the night, accompanied by a breathtaking view of the stars above…

And if the wind is calm, we just find the closest bay and enjoy a refreshing swim, go snorkelling or take a stroll on the beach.., pure seafaring, far from the mass tourism of large cruise liners.

Whenever possible, we actually set sails, but only for about 4-7 hours a day. In the remaining time there is plenty opportunity to take a swim right off board, to go on an individual excursion to the shore and get to know the country and its people, and much more…

Disembarkation.
On this island, which is part of Hispaniola, Columbus founded the first Spanish colony in America. Santo Domingo, the present capital of the Dominican Republic, is the first and oldest European-founded city in the New World. Old in the New World still means relatively young - it corresponds to Renaissance visions of the ideal and was the model for many cities in Latin America. A visit to the historic old city is like a journey through time. The splendid stone buildings are testament to the era of the colonial conquests and have been smartened up as World Heritage Sites under the protection of UNESCO.

Overview

Across the Atlantic: Santiago – Santo Domingo

Pure sailing adventure

For 18 days the expansive ocean becomes the home of the Sea Cloud. The currents of the
trade winds propel the windjammer forward. Our well-rehearsed crew works seamlessly together as the white sails billow majestically in the breeze. On a Transatlantic cruise, you certainly experience one of the most authentic sailing adventures. And as we make our way to the New World, the worries of everyday life vanish as fast as the eastern shore.

Once across the Atlantic – experience pure sailing between the Cape Verde Islands and the Caribbean: Santiago – Santo Domingo

Follow the course of Columbus

More than 500 years after Columbus, not just windjammer enthusiasts will be awestruck by this re-enactment of his famous voyage. As the Sea Cloud sails from Cape Verde to the West Indies, it brings the magic of those great adventures to life. All the voyagers on board will be left with unforgettable memories.

Discover a haven of tranquillity
As you cruise across the Atlantic, you will for once be able to read your favourite book without distraction or allow your thoughts to roam as you gaze out over the horizon. The attentive crew intuitively meets your every need and the relaxed atmosphere is the perfect catalyst for a pleasant conversation.

A lecturer accompanies the trip
The practice of gathering around a storyteller has provided voyagers with entertainment throughout history. Our lecturer has likewise prepared some exciting talks for our windjammer enthusiasts during their Transatlantic cruise.

Day 1

Ushuaia

Embarkation. Capital of Argentina's Tierra del Fuego province, Ushuaia is considered the gateway to the “Great White“ and the South Pole. Nicknamed “El fin del mundo” by the Argentinian people, this city at the end of the world nestles in the shelter of mountains surrounded by fertile plains that the wildlife seem to have chosen as the ultimate sanctuary. With its exceptional site, where the Andes plunge straight into the sea, Ushuaia is one of the most fascinating places on earth, its very name evocative of journeys to the unlikely and the inaccessible…

Day 2

Day at sea

During your day at sea, make the most of the many services and activities on board. Treat yourself to a moment of relaxation in the spa or stay in shape in the fitness centre. Depending on the season, let yourself be tempted by the swimming pool or a spot of sunbathing. This day without a port of call will also be an opportunity to enjoy the conferences or shows proposed on board, to do some shopping in the boutique or to meet the PONANT photographers in their dedicated space. As for lovers of the open sea, they will be able to visit the ship’s upper deck to admire the spectacle of the waves and perhaps be lucky enough to observe marine species. A truly enchanted interlude, combining comfort, rest and entertainment.

Day 3

New Island & Grave Cove

This island with its distinctive jagged relief is located on the western edge of the Falkland Islands and is home to a tiny village of two families. Step onto the golden sand of its flower-lined beaches, beside which an old stone house still stands, and you'll feel like you've entered a natural paradise. A narrow pathway weaves around typical Falkland moorlands. Follow it and in under 20 minutes you'll find yourself at the heart of a colony of southern rockhopper penguins, black-browed albatross and imperial shags. It's the perfect opportunity to watch the albatross swoop down from the cliffs and skim the waves that crash against the rocks on the exposed side of the island.
Grave Cove; make your way through the turbulent Woolly Gut strait and emerge in the stillness of Grave Cove. Located in the northern edge of the Falkland Islands, this bay owes its name to the vestiges of whalers’ graves that overlook the beach. As you step off the boat and onto the white-sand beach, you might find yourself escorted by a few hospitable Commerson's dolphins, elegantly adorned in black and white. A stroll along the grassy dunes will lead you to a vast plain of lush green grass, tended by a few sheep. On the other side of the island you'll find one of the largest gentoo penguin colonies in the area. With some luck, you'll also glimpse a sea lion scouring the waves for his next meal.

Day 4

Steeple Jason Island & The Neck, Saunders Island

If one island of the Falklands calls for use of superlatives, it would undoubtedly be Steeple Jason. Located at the extreme north-west corner of the Falklands, the island is home to the largest black-browed albatross colony in the world. You'll be rapt at the sight of these magnificent birds with black-contoured eyes. Photographers will delight in immortalising the endless ballet of the albatross, who soars majestically and then alights awkwardly amidst nests. Caracaras, gentoo penguins and Magellanic penguins are also abundantly present, as if to prove to the visitor that here nature is king.
The Neck, Saunders Island; the Neck is a narrow stretch of land connecting the two sides of Saunders Island, located on the north-western edge of the Falklands. You'll safely enter these blustery surroundings with the assistance of your naturalist guides. And once there, a reward awaits you: a veritable paradise of endless shoreline lapped by turquoise waters. Several bird species, also attracted to this stunning location, have settled here. At the other end of The Neck, you'll encounter Magellanic penguins, southern rockhopper penguins, black-browed albatross and king penguins, all basking in the beauty of their surroundings.

Day 7

South Georgia

Aboard your ship, discover South Georgia, a region formed by an underwater mountain chain that extends from the Andes to the Antarctic Peninsula. All the wildlife of the Far South can be found there: king and Gentoo penguins, elephant seals, fur seals… You might get the chance to discover the majestic glaciers of Gold Harbour and the vast plains of Fortuna Bay. If you are fortunate enough to land at Salisbury Plain, you can expect a wonderful spectacle: more than 300,000 king penguins, which you will recognise by the bright orange mark on their head and neck, have taken up residence there.

Day 14

Tristan da Cunha

A small British archipelago discovered in the 16th century by the Portuguese sailor after whom it was named, Tristan da Cunha is made up of several islands scattered off the South-African coast. Most of these are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. During your cruise, you will discover the archipelago’s eponymous main island, offering visitors basalt land lulled by the swell, home to the only village in the chain of islands, and topped with a volcano.

Day 15

Nightingale Island

This small active volcanic island of 3 km2 belongs to the isolated Tristan da Cunha island chain, far out in the South Atlantic. Totally uninhabited, the island is visited only by researchers for whom it offers a rich field of observation. The island is colonised by over a million birds, including great shearwaters and Atlantic yellow-nosed albatross, two iconic species of these Subantarctic waters.

Day 16

Gough Island

Located in the midst of the Roaring Forties winds, this small uninhabited volcanic island is the remotest of the Tristan da Cunha islands. Stopovers here are no easy feat and require authorisation. But even from your Zodiac®, you'll have a chance to take in the beauty of this wild island, lined by steep cliffs that plunge dramatically into the ocean. Recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Gough Island harbours one of the largest colonies of seabirds in the world. Endemic species include the Gough finch and the Gough moorhen. Along with its ‘little sister’, Inaccessible Island, Gough constitutes one of the most well-preserved natural sites in the world, virtually unaltered by man.

Day 21

Sailing around the Cape of Good Hope & Cape Town

Located at the southern tip of the African continent, the Cape of Good Hope was originally dubbed the Cape of Storms by Portuguese explorer Bartolomeu Dias, due to its position at the confluence of two opposing ocean currents. One of the most iconic sites on the planet, the area is a veritable paradise for a number of marine animal species. The cape is one of three promontories offering a breathtaking view onto Table Mountain National Park, a stunning 7,000-km2 stretch of greenery. From your ship, you'll take in the impressive scene of clear ocean waves crashing against steep, towering cliffs.
Cape Town; dynamic and peaceful, cosmopolitan and hip, Cape Town offers its visitors a most unique mix. Here, the locals like to say that their city is “the quintessential melting pot of South Africa”. Located in the heart of one of the most beautiful bays in the world and dominated by the famous Table Mountain, it is graced with extraordinary landscapes including sheer cliffs that plunge into the Atlantic Ocean and vast whitesand beaches. We invite you to discover this incredible city, the South African capital of fashion, the art of living, and gastronomy. Further on, the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve awaits you and is home to a wide variety of endemic fauna and flora.

Vessel Type: Luxury Small Ship
Length: 142 metres
Passenger Capacity: 260
Crew Capacity: 140
Built: 2015
A sleek silhouette, a welcoming intimate atmosphere, discover aboard this new ship the philosophy that has made our sisterships such a success: the spirit of Yacht Cruises.
Sailing under the French flag, this magnificent yacht of only 122 staterooms and suites, with balconies, will join our fleet in April 2015. You will be enchanted by the contemporary decor inspired by the our destinations and the blue light of the Vega star in the Lyra constellation. The result is a subtle variation around a palette of blues, ranging from the  luminous delicate grey-blue of the Polar ice to splashes of the vivid turquoise blue found in  Mediterranean coves
A refined ambiance is enhanced by the quality of the workmanship and materials: white Corian counters in the lobby contrast with the warmth of leather to recall a boat’s hull, while the central sculpture of enamelled pieces takes its inspiration from the sea. In the loungebar, the carpet picks up a tennis stripe theme symbolising a certain idea of cruising, one synonymous with French elegance and a chic seaside spirit.
