Day 2

Aboard our comfortable skiffs, we set sail from the Amazon River to the Yarapa River. Keep your binoculars ready to spot tropical songbirds, black collared hawks and sloths. We’ll go fishing for Amazonia’s notoriously ferocious piranhas while our naturalist guides share stories of Lake Moringo. As the sun sets, we head off on an evening’s wildlife excursion with extraordinary stargazing on the black waters of Nauta Caño.

Day 3

Marañon River - Casual Jungle Walk - Yanayacu-pucate River

Rise with the sun for an early morning birdwatching along the Marañon River. After breakfast, we will take a jungle walk on the firm soil forest “Casual,” while looking for flora and fauna which include medicinal trees, insects, and poison dart frogs, and learning more about the different rainforest stratas. Later, swim, canoe or kayak in Yanayacu-Pucate River as we look for legendary pink river dolphins. Focus our hi-tech telescope on the night sky to identify the planets and constellations.

Day 4

Nauta Town - Village Visit - Birthplace Of The Amazon

This morning, we will visit the local fresh market with your guides who can identify the day’s catch by the fishermen of Amazonia and the region’s exotic fruits. In the afternoon, we witness one of the great spectacles of the Southern Hemisphere, the birthplace of the Amazon River. Tonight you will meet the new passengers who have signed on for the four-night trip, as we start our journey together along the Marañon River.

Day 5

Yanallpa River - Dorado River

The rewards of our early start today are plentiful, including a breakfast picnic accompanied by jungle symphony and fishing along the black waters of the Pacaya River. After lunch, we venture out by skiffs on the Ucayali River alongside the banana boats transporting their jungle products to the port of Requena, keeping an eye out for pink river dolphins.

Other local activities may be included as well, according to the recommended flight schedule.

Overview

Aria Amazon Expedition Cruise

We highly recommend our 7-night Amazon River Expedition Cruise on the Aria Amazon where you may experience our most luxurious and comprehensive Amazon journey among the Amazon River’s three powerful tributaries: the Marañon, the Ucayali, and the Puinahua as well as several hidden black water lakes.
Allow the mighty Amazon River time to slowly unveil her majesty and wonders in nature. Kayak, canoe or swim in these unspoiled black waters, keeping eyes peeled for the Amazon’s legendary pink dolphins. Be witness to one of the great spectacles of the Southern Hemisphere, the birth of the Amazon River and see the unforgettable giant water lilies. Search for three-toed sloths, toucans, and macaws, fish for piranhas, and meet taricaya turtles in their natural habitat. Enjoy a breakfast picnic accompanied by the jungle symphony and fish along the black waters of the Pacaya River. As our vessel journeys towards the union of the Ucayali and the Marañon Rivers, considered the birthplace of the Amazon, learn from our experienced, expert naturalist guides about the diverse Amazon wildlife and birds of the Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve.

• Low Water Season (June through October) vs. High Water Season (November through May)

If seeing glorious Amazon rainforest at its lushest and getting up close to lots of birds and mammals (and enjoying slightly cooler temperatures) sounds most attractive, then December to May might be your best choice.
If jungle hikes and spotting exotic migratory birds perched on trees between flights across Amazonia appeals most to you, while still having the chance to see capuchin monkeys, kinkajou, and other mammals, and going on great fishing expeditions, you might be happier choosing the warmer, low water season.

River cruises on the Amazon and Mekong with Aqua Expeditions can be made in 4, 5 or 8 days. Aqua Blu cruises in Indonesia can be made in 8 or 13 days.

Highlights

See the Amazon River’s rare pink dolphins • Venture deep into the Amazon rainforest among its extraordinary array of mammals and birds • Explore within the five million pristine acres of Pacaya Samiria Reserve, a protected wildlife area teeming with lifelong mating pairs of blue-and-yellow macaw, flocks of snowy egrets, laughing falcons and Amazon kingfishers in the air, squirrel monkeys frolicking in the trees and pink dolphins poking their dorsal fins above the river water while colossal Victoria Regia water lilies float along the surface • Interact with local people in their villages, living largely as they have for centuries

After lunch, we board our marine-grade aluminum skiffs and head towards the tamarind trees of Preah Prosop, a remote village little changed over several lifetimes.

In the silversmith village of Koh Chen, we watch artisans producing the magnificent silverware favored by Khmer royalty. We continue to Udong, the royal capital from the 17-19th centuries, where we learn about a uniquely challenging Buddhist practice at the Vipassana Dhura Mandala, a meditation center. Overview

Indonesia, Ambon & Spice islands Cruise

The Spice Islands consists of a cluster of seven major islands, including the populated Banda Neira, Banda Besar and Pulau Run. Such was the significance of a monopoly of the Spice Islands, the Dutch East Indies Company, also known as the VOC, had traded Manhattan (in today’s New York City) for Pulau Run (an island just over a square mile in area) with the British in 1667.

In fact, as you explore the remnants of the Islands’ colonial past such as cannons that stand literally side-by-side of traditional village homes, you might just be the first to stumble upon a long-lost relic or fort given how utterly undiscovered the Spice Islands are by the outside world.

The Spice Island expedition also gives the explorer the chance to kick back and unwind at some of the most scenic locations in the world. Molana and Pulau Run boast picture-perfect sandy beaches and are prime locations for swimming, fishing, snorkeling and diving as well as village tours and birdwatching.

Highlights

Banda Neira. The epicentre of the Old World global spice trade, Banda Neira is a kaleidoscope of tradition, culture, nature and wildlife • Pulau Run. It’s difficult to imagine now, but this remote island village was once worth as much as Manhattan • Nusa Laut & Molana. With its fair share of historical artifacts, this is a picturesque paradise for both water- and land-based adventures and home to the dugong (Asian manatee) • Ambon & Sarapua. The vibrant capital of Maluku province offers a fantastic introduction to the region • Pulau Manuk. This lone volcanic crater island in the Banda Sea rises 3,000 from the sea floor

Ambon
