Overview

Greece – Jewels of Cyclades

Cyclades: Dazzling white villages, golden beaches and clear azure water are just the start of what these islands have to offer. Ancient Greek geographers gave this unique cluster of islands the name Cyclades because they saw that they formed a circle (‘kyklos” in Greek) of sorts around the sacred island of Delos. According to myth, the islands were the debris that remained after a battle between giants. In reality, they resulted from colossal geological events like earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. Their colours are blue and white like the Greek flag. The islands come in all sizes and, though the ingredients are the same – incomparable light, translucent water, heavenly beaches, lustrous white buildings and bare rock, each one has its own distinct character…

Highlights

Small is beautiful: Folegandros Island; a hidden gem that proves that small is beautiful, and will sweep you off your feet with its beauty, charm and relaxing rhythm. A few years ago, Folegandros was a well-kept secret, known to a discerning few. Now, more and more people are discovering this tiny, remote island with its rugged beauty and easy pace. Its main town, Hora, teeters precariously on the edge of a high cliff with its many squares framed by graceful, typically Cycladic church facades and old-fashioned tavernas • Galileo: Your home away from home; imagine a place far from home that feels just like home, where the borders are delineated by the golden shores of the sea; and home is wherever the anchors drop. Imagine 157 feet of comfort, old style beauty, and safety classified by the latest International “Safety of Life at Sea” (SOLAS) standards. You have arrived on board the Galileo! • Deck BBQ & Swim-stop in Polyaigos Island; a paradise on earth awaits.

Highlights

Greek Night under Santorini Island; our Greek-night dinner is followed by the famous and much-loved Greek night on board. Greek dance is a very old tradition, being referred to by authors such as Plato, Aristotle, Plutarch and Lucian. There are different styles and interpretations from all of the islands and surrounding mainland areas. Each region formed its own choreography and style to fit in with their own ways. For example, island dances have more of a different smooth flow to them. Be tempted and follow the rhythm! • Symi, Greece; while approaching the port of Symi, one has the overwhelming feeling of entering a perfectly painted image of a scenic traditional village. As a rule, people remain agape and cannot take their eyes off the spectacular sight. The few who can resist the superb spectacle of the town of Symi stretching its impeccable architecture – all of the buildings there have been listed – on the slopes of the surrounding hills, take off their eyes to look at their book guides. They see the picture of the port of Symi printed on their books • Patmos -a touch of the Divine; surrender yourself to the mysticism and tranquility of the island of The Apocalypse. The Cave of the Apocalypse, this sacred, candlelit grotto is believed to be the spot where St John the Divine received his visions from Christ and transcribed the Book of Revelation, the last chapter of the Christian Bible. Exiled on Patmos in 95 AD, he preached to, baptised and prayed with the island’s inhabitants. Eventually, Patmos came to be considered sacred and the cave became the focal point of a significant religious pilgrimage
